As the air crisps, the leaves change, and we set our altars for our ancestors, the we arrive in the darker seasons of the year. Please join FACES as we come together to light the night in celebration of Mama Earth’s many blessings and the coming holidays with these special events:
Parols and Pagkain: a parol- and suman-making workshop
Sunday, December 8, 1pm-4pm, at a Berkeley Home
Please RSVP Here.
Join us for a workshop that will leave you ready for the holidays! Come learn how to cook a traditional
Filipino treat–suman–and make parols with repurposed materials and designs that express our love for Mama Earth! SUMAN is a sweet rice cake dessert wrapped in banana (or other) leaves, a staple of traditional Filipino celebrations. A PAROL is a traditional lantern displayed by many Filipino families during the holiday season. It is an iconic symbol of the Filipino Christmas, and a symbol of hope and good will.
Then come bring your parol to the:
SF Parol Lantern Festival and Parade
Saturday, December 14, 5-9pm in San Francisco
Parade begins at Yerba Buena Gardens and ends at St. Patrick’s Church
FACES will have a contingent at the community parade. Visit www.bayanihancc.org for more information about the parade, and email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in joining our contingent!
